Getting to school
For government schools, the Ministry of Education and Training contracts private bus companies to provide daily transport for students, according to a Cayman Islands Government press release from August 2026. Some school bus drivers and bus wardens are employed by the Government directly.
Ask your school which bus serves your area, where the nearest stop is, and the pick-up and drop-off times. Private schools make their own arrangements, so ask at enrolment whether a bus is offered and what it costs.
Our directory lists four transport businesses, including bus and limousine services and the public transit bus depot. We do not record which, if any, are contracted to particular schools. If you arrange private transport or a car share, agree pick-up times in writing and tell the school who is authorised to collect your child.
School lunches
Lunch arrangements vary. Some schools and early years centres include meals; for example, our data notes that meals are included in tuition at Shining Stars Childhood Care & Education Centre. Others have a canteen, and many children take a packed lunch.
Packed lunches travel better in an insulated bag with a cold pack, and most schools ask for named, reusable containers. Check whether your school is nut-free or has other food rules before you plan a menu.
We list eight caterers, private chefs and a mobile caterer. They are general catering businesses, not confirmed school lunch services, so ask whether they deliver to schools, how they handle allergies and whether the school allows outside food deliveries. Eleven of the 12 listings in this category are in George Town and one is in Bodden Town.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free school bus in the Cayman Islands?
Government schools have daily bus transport, provided by private bus companies contracted by the Ministry of Education and Training, with some Government-employed drivers and wardens, according to a Government press release from August 2026. We have not confirmed on an official page who is eligible or whether there is any charge, so ask your child's school or the Ministry directly.
How do I find government school bus routes in Cayman?
Ask your child's school. It can tell you which bus serves your area, where the nearest stop is and the pick-up and drop-off times. Government school transport is run by private bus companies contracted by the Ministry of Education and Training, so the school or the Ministry is the right contact for route details rather than an individual bus company.
Do private schools in Cayman provide transport?
Private schools make their own transport arrangements, so it varies from school to school. Ask at enrolment whether a bus or shuttle is offered, which areas it covers, what it costs and whether places are limited. If there is no school bus, our listings include private transport businesses, though we do not record which, if any, work with particular schools.
Are there school lunch delivery services in Grand Cayman?
Our directory lists eight caterers, private chefs and a mobile caterer, mostly in George Town and one in Bodden Town. These are general catering businesses rather than confirmed school lunch services. Ask each one whether it delivers to schools, how it handles allergies and dietary needs, and check that your school allows outside food deliveries before you sign up.
Do Cayman schools provide school meals?
It depends on the school. Some include meals in their fees; for example, our data notes that meals are included in tuition at Shining Stars Childhood Care & Education Centre. Others run a canteen or expect children to bring a packed lunch. Ask the school what is offered, what it costs and how it handles allergies before your child starts.
