Start with your school's uniform list
Every school sets its own uniform, so the list from your school is the only reliable guide. Check the colours, which items must carry the school crest or logo, the rules on shoes and socks, and whether PE kit is a separate set.
Crested items such as polo shirts, ties or sweaters often come from a single source. Our listings do not record which businesses supply which schools, so ask the school office where its logo items are sold before you shop. Plain items like skirts, trousers and shorts are usually easier to find, and a tailor can make or adjust them.
When to buy, and how much
The busiest time is the few weeks before the new school year starts in August. Shopping in early summer gives you more choice of sizes and leaves time for alterations. If your child is starting in January, or has grown over the autumn term, plan a smaller top-up in December.
Two or three sets of everyday items is enough for most families, with one spare shirt for accidents. Children grow quickly, so it can make sense to buy a size up and have hems taken up, then let down later.
Tailors, seamstresses and fabric shops
Of the 10 listings, most are tailors, bespoke tailors, sewing and alteration services, or fabric shops, as categorised on Google Maps. Fabric shops such as Quality Sewing & Accessories and Super Stitch Sewing and Fabric Centre are useful if you need matching fabric, thread or buttons, or want a skirt or pinafore made to measure.
Every listing has a phone number and five have websites. Call ahead to check opening hours, turnaround times and whether they can handle a rush in August. Once the uniform is ready, add name labels before the first day: see our printing and name labels page for embroidery and label options.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I buy school uniforms in Grand Cayman?
Most uniform shops and tailors in our directory are in George Town: nine of the 10 listings in this category are there, and one is on Cayman Brac. Before you shop, check your school's uniform list and ask the school office where crested or logo items are sold, because some items may only be available from one place. Plain items can often be bought or made by a tailor.
Do Cayman schools sell uniforms directly?
It depends on the school. Some parents buy logo items through the school itself, others through a shop the school names. We do not record which businesses supply which schools, so the school office is the best source. Ask too whether there is a second-hand uniform sale, which can be a good way to buy items your child will quickly outgrow.
Where can I get school uniforms altered or hemmed in Cayman?
Our directory lists tailors, bespoke tailors, sewing shops and clothing alteration services, mostly in George Town. Hemming trousers and skirts, taking in waists and adjusting sleeves are typical jobs. Call ahead before the August rush to check turnaround times, and bring the item with your child so it can be pinned for the right fit.
Where can I buy Cayman International School or Cayman Prep uniforms?
Cayman International School's 2026-27 uniform information names Lands' End as its off-island supplier and Becky's Closet on-island, and sells some used items at its front office. Cayman Prep & High School says some items must come from Lands' End, trousers, shorts and skorts are also sold at Becky's Closet, and other items go through its own Uniform Shop. Check each school's current uniform page before ordering.
When should I buy school uniforms in Cayman?
Aim to buy before the rush in the weeks leading up to the new school year in August. Early summer usually means a better choice of sizes and time for any alterations. If your child joins in January or has a growth spurt during the autumn term, plan a smaller top-up in December rather than waiting for the first week back.
